Tianjin Medical University founded in 1951 was the first medical institution approved by the State Council of the People?s Republic of China.
TMU was one of the first universities in China to be recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and one of the very few universities in China to acquire the approval of the Ministry of Health to accept foreign students.
Instruction has been carried out in English for 10 years now and teachers are competent in their field of study.
Currently there are approximately over 800 foreign students from about 20 countries. There are 2 intakes per year. The main intake is in September, but some students also arrive in March to take an early lesson in Chinese.
Along with medical subjects chinese is also thought during the first 2 years of the curriculum, as it is required for daily use and if a student is interested in doing their last year of clinical studies in China.
The first semester consists of only basic sciences [Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus] medical subjects commence in the second semester consisting of Anatomy, Histology, Organic Chemistry.
Tianjin Medical University is located in Tianjin City Proper in Heping District. Along with the neighbouring Nankai District, many other universities are located, such as Tianjin University, Nankai University etc. The two district together form a hub of foreign students and give diversity to the local chinese population. Tianjin is an hour and half away from the capital city of Beijing by train and is the 3rd largest city in China.
The college consists of 6 university hospitals 4 affiliated hospitals and 11 research institutes. A second foreign students dormitory is due to be completed by mid april of 2008.
I am currently in my second year at TMU and upto now I am satisfied with how things are working out for me. Like all other medical schools hard work is required and the knowledge obtained can be compared to any other medical student in any other university in the world.
Any more information anyone would like feel free.
