Hello to all, #sad

I kind of knew it was coming after all the instability going on in Pakistan. My parents dont want me going to Pakistan for Medical anymore. I still want to go though. I have told them my opinion. I hope everything turns normal. Inshallah.

#sad

I dont know if the net is working in Pakistan right now. I hope it is.

Maybe i will just go to some other corner of the world for medical school.#sad

It's certainly a valid concern your parents have because they worry about your safety but you should objectively look at the risks of studying in Pakistan rather than let the media's fear-mongering machine affect your decisions.

Life for most of the population has not changed significantly due to Emergency Rule being implemented.

The media blows stuff out of proportion and the reality on the ground is usually in stark contrast to what people watching on TV are led to believe.

If it was me, I'd still come, Emergency Rule or not.
Rehan you are absolutely right. People in Pakistan don't even have time to think about these things. These things are nothing new 4 Pakistan. There is always something going around in Pakistan and its always the government which is involved common people don't care anymore...they are just busy in their normal life...they are just living how they were living before. Pride one of the reasons ur parents are reluctant to send you is their fear of possible Student Union mobilization which could threaten shut down of colleges...but these political student associations don't exist in medical colleges. Medical students don't have time for all this stuff. These things are more common in colleges and universities. Medical students don't possess this kind of mind set...they want to study and earn bread. Students Unions are active in Universities. Its quite normal 4 ur parents to feel like this but you could tell them to talk about this with your relatives living in Pakistan. I am pretty sure they would help ur parents see the real picture of the situation in Pakistan. Inshallah everything will turn out fine...pray and try ur best and in the end what ever happens, happens 4 good.

Yea my parents have talked to some of our relatives in Pakistan, particularly in Lahore where I'll be going, and to them it's not as big a deal as it is for those of us here in the U.S. who get their news through the media.
I haven't noticed a damn thing yet. Truth be told, I hear more about stuff happening in Pakistan when I go home for a five weeks than I ever do while living in Islamabad for months at a time.

Seriously, it's called 'the media,' and it lies.

(TV however, does not lie. TV is awesome. Never say anything bad about TV.)
martial laws have come and gone.......an emergency is called every other year.......in america if the stock market crashes, the country goes into a depression like in the 30's...my uncle who works at the stock market says it crashes at least twice a month in pak....... ....... ...... the law that said that rickshas cant go on mall rd affected me more than the emergency........the only thing that i noticed was that a few channels were being blocked for a few hours..............
I would like tell you all that the BIGGEST THREAT TO YOU IN PAKISTAN is getting hit by a speeding ricksha or an out of control khota when crossing the street and even that never happens as well as the diarrhea your bound to get in the beggining
I've also heard that there are lota thieves in the tribal areas.
Thing is in Pakistan medical school your basically in a bubble, you dont have to venture around much. Its not dangerous at all. There are 160 million people here. If they were all to start running or peeing (besides washing certain anti-pakistan countries away), there would be an earthquake.

Nothing to be scared of. Just TV making a big deal to make more viewers to make more money. Why dont you come for a while and have a looksie for yourself

dude my dad works for the govt. i'll tell you what the deal is; the chief justice was going to convict the PM and president in some cases so the president got rid of them by suspending the '73 constitution. if ure not a MNA, MPA or a judge of the supreme court you have nothing to worry about.

today at LMDC i met 5 foreigners who just got here two weeks ago.

dude we have wireless internet 24/7. it's only the news channels that are being censored to prevent protests form the civil society.

I still plan on going to Islamabad. The current pressure i think is being placed on key lawyers and such.

New options for med school hav been considered such as Gulf Medical College.

Thanks for the advice.#happy
Bulgaria is a good option

Most of us this year found out which Punjab government medical colleges we got into by the end of September. The entry test for locals was held on October 28. That gives a little less than a month to go to Pakistan and arrange to take the entrance test. The exception would be if you feel that you're really on the borderline of making it in or not and wish to wait and see if people drop out of PTAP/SFS to see if your name makes it on the second list. In that case, things may extend into October.

Dates for various deadlines can change from year to year, so you should always check the KEMU, HEC, and EAD websites from time to time when application season comes around to find out exactly when things are going on.

I'm not sure what you mean by seats for "overseas" Pakistanis. PTAP and SFS are both for overseas Pakistanis. I know there's one other option for local Pakistanis to apply under Self-Finance if they didn't score well enough on the entry test to get a second shot at getting into the government medical colleges, are you maybe referring to that?

hy guys,

i really want to go to med school in pakistan. my dad was asking some pakistani doctors here, if thats a good idea. They said its not a good idea to go there because when the kids who study their come back its really hard for them to get a job and if they and if they get one its not good. Now my dad doesnt want me to go. help me out guys. Give me facts with which i can persuade my parents.

Thanks
umm....
well i would say its pretty tough..you have to give lots of exam i knw 3 pakistani doctors who actually got a residency here in Canada..is all about hard work..well i knw that they do not accept deggrees from other countries...but you have to give the exam, i will consider Pak becuse you graduate earlier (ehmm well here ur gonna be old When u graduate), you dont have to apply in USA, you can alos apply to other countries, i mean that medical profession is accepted all over the world..so you will have a job when you graduate..but if ur dad still does not want you to come to Pak then try applying to UK it takes 5 years over there to finish med..and also they take you after highschool...but its very expensive.. well i guess i dont have much to say..i would say its all up to you,..you should consider why you want to go to Pakistan and study rather then here..i hope that this helps.
