Hi, I wonder what kind of job do the IMG in USA. If they are rich no problem. But like me it is hard. I am an IMG already in Usa and preparing for step 1 but i don't have any source of income. Is it possible for an IMG to get a license as a nurse(licensed practical nurse) in short period of time respect to the normal time necessary for a student with no medical training? I got a job in STARBUCKS but i am looking a job something in the medical field. is this possible before passing the steps? or i can only work out of the medical field? I will apply for research assistant but i think this will be hard to find cuz most of them require 1 or more years of experience.
The IMG in Usa what kind of work do they find while they prepare for the steps?
PLS HELP I AM CONFUSED. Any help will be appreciated. I MUST WORK,I HAVE NO INCOME. I HAVE WORK PERMIT
THANK YOU

It's hard to find a paid research position or any position in the medical field without at least being a resident. Most people who need income while waiting to take steps or waiting to get accepted into a residency program do exactly what you're doing now, namely, working at a fast food joint.

Though you may not be able to find a job in the medical field, you could try to find a commission based job if you're good at selling things, have good 'people' skills, or if you're good with cars try to find a job as a mechanic and you'll make considerably more money than you are now.

Seeing as how you've graduated medical school, I would personally recommend that you look into private tutoring at any local schools, be it high school, college, or medical school. People are usually willing to pay even up to 25 dollars per hour of private tutoring and if you can build a good report with your students, you can easily book a week of 40 hours+. I used to do it myself back in college. If this sounds like something you want to do feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Best of luck.

Thank you natacha and mastahriz for your information
I found an information that it is possible to work as medical assistant in a private physician's office without being licensed as Medical Assistant. I will try to send my resume for this position if it is possible. Does some one heard about this? I would like to hear others opinion about this medical assistant job.
For Certified Nursing Assistant and Emergency medical technician, i heard that i must go to college, which means i must drop money for the program. i don't know what to decide about these possibilities. Let me see with time. By the way how much is the salary for CNA and EMT?
The last option that masthariz suggested me sounds good. But i must find my students else where. Is it possible to ask about tutoring TO the college's advisors? I don't know who to ask. But as a tutor, i would have saved time, and enjoyed it.
i have searched some forums about the job of the IMG before passing the steps but i found almost nothing. May be majority of the IMG in usa are RICH:)
Anyway i will try my best to survive and take the exams.
I hope to find some information in this forum again
Thanks

I don't know much about the private practices, but just keep in mind, it will be difficult without being licensed. Usually people who aren't licensed but are working in the medical field are volunteers and not paid. If you've already found a place then definitely try to apply there.

I think you're going to have a much easier and more productive time trying to get work outside of the medical field until you've passed steps or have some other credentials other than an mbbs or IMG degree.

We'll try to see if we can find out the CNA and EMT salaries but I'm not sure of those myself right now.

As for the tutoring, I don't know what you mean by "you must find your students elsewhere." Where do you mean? Go to any Junior College, Community College, High School, College/ University campuses that are in your area or nearby and post fliers with your phone number attached at the bottom. Put these fliers up and then wait for calls. BTW, don't start off by charging people 25 dollars an hour. You'll have to start lower, and then see what amount they are willing to pay, which usually depends on how hard the subject is, how difficult they find it, and most importantly, how well you can tutor them and overcome the first two hurdles. I can assure you one thing though, that tutoring is for sure a very lucrative business. The more subjects you can tutor, the more you will make. I don't know about your background but before joining medical school myself I found that there were always, always people out there needing help in physics, trig, pre-calculus, calculus, chemistry, algebra or biology. The harder the subject, the more chances you have of finding more people who need help. Of course since you're a medical graduate, you should definitely try at medical schools as well.

I'm pretty sure you can't go through the college itself unless you are actually enrolled in that college and have passed the classes you want to tutor at that college itself. This doesn't mean that you can't post ads everywhere though. You have to become an opportunist and get out there and try.

Good luck.

Hi masthariz
You r right ,it is hard to find job in the medical field being only IMG. Here they want an accredited certificate for CNA, EMT,MA. I got a PHLEBOTOMY programm of 2 months and half, so i will get certificate in a vocational college. What do u think about this?
Well when i say "i must find my students else where", I want to say that it is hard to find students cuz i don't know well the city, i am new so hard to find some one who wants tutoring. As you told me I will try to post fliers in colleges and universities.
