Help on dermatology residency

Although anything is possible, and any specialty is possible, we should really examine what the realistic situation is. Dermatology spots fill up 100% completely every year. This means that there are no undesired, smaller program spots that American medical graduates do not want. Of course there are dermatology programs which are less desirable than other programs but that doesn't mean foreign graduates can take those seats, as American graduates will still take them almost always.

For dermatology, unless you have a strong research resume showing your long term interest in derm right after you graduate from medical school, even if you have 99/99 on Step 1/2, you will almost certainly not get a derm residency. You can however go and work as a researcher after graduating from medical school and if your work impresses faculty in the program and your test scores are high enough, you may get a residency a year or two years later.

But as I said before, coming from a non-US medical school and not being a US citizen no program is going to want to take you in something that is highly competitive. So yes, anything is possible, but it depends on how long you are willing to work to make that dream a reality. I say if you want something bad enough, don't worry about the time it will take to get there -- its much better to spend a few extra years getting into a field that you will enjoy the rest of your life rather than saving a few years right now while you're young to end up in a field you'll dislike the rest of your life.

And please, change your keyboard or find a way to turn off your caps lock key. Typing in all caps is very annoying and not very professional at all.
