As a memeber of the medical community, what is your stance on the subject of abortions? Has being in the medical field changed your view at all? We at Med Studentz.com want to hear what you have to say! :!:

Against abortion. I agree with the Islamic ruling on abortion.
Majid,

For our non-Muslim members, could you please give a detailed description of what exactly the Islamic ruling on abortions is?

Good question. I know what the general ruling was, but not the whole specifics.

But basically abortion is only allowed when there is a risk to the mother's life.

"If, say the jurists, after the baby is completely formed, it is reliably shown that the continuation of the pregnancy would necessarily result in the death of the mother, then, in accordance with the general principle of the Shari`ah (islamic law), that of choosing the lesser of two evils, abortion must be performed."

At the end of the day, from a personal point of view, abortion is cruel especially when done without any reason, for example people dont feel like having a burden of a child, so they just choose to abort.

And just look at the various methods of abortion, it makes you cringe.
This is a very good topic. Personally I dont agree with abortion. I would keep the baby even if it was conceived out of rape. I know people who see this statement might say "thats easier said then done" but I feel that its not the babies fault that he was concieved out of rape. So, my alternative for this case would be to give the baby up for adoption because there are lots of women who would give anything to be able to get pregnant and have a child. So they end up adopting instead.
In the Dominican Republic, abortion is illegal also and 80% of the young teenagers who get pregnant by accident find some way to abort the baby. They even go to the extent of drinking all kinds of chemicals and once the baby dies they go to the hospital to have it removed. I think that is so cruel!
Anyway, I deffinitly am against abortion:(
If I'm not mistaken, Islam rules alongside your beliefs Natacha and rape and incest are not grounds for abortion.

Abortion is only deemed permissible if carrying the baby to term and delivering it will threaten the mother's life.

Not only threaten her health---but threaten her life--as in she will die if the abortion is not carried out. This distinction is clearly made and is the only condition in which Islam deems abortion permissible.

Islam's take on abortion in cases of rape or incest is that the innocent child should not suffer and pay with its life for the wrongdoing of others, as each person is individually responsible for his or her acts.
I believe in a woman's right to choose...a friend of mine became pregnant through some reckless fun and irresponsible choices but decided to have the baby.

She felt that since she was making the choice of her own volition to keep the child, she had made a committment to raising it and taking care of it.

I dunno--i just feel that you can mkae a law requiring a woman to deliver the child and raise it but it doesn't mean she'll love it.

Whether its against the law or not, a woman still has to choose....thats just my opinion though---really don't mean to offend anyone! :)
It's a good opinion. I dont think anyone took offense to it.
